AGENT CARTER – “The Lady in the Lake” and “A View in the Dark” Discussion

Agent Carter has finally returned to our screens after what felt like the longest break in between seasons. Remember when we weren’t even sure if Agent Carter would get picked back up and went into a little frenzy?! Well all that outcry of support and love worked because the second season has been filmed and is now aired. Huzzah! One quick change though; Peggy is no longer in New York and has instead took her skills to lovely 1940’s Los Angeles. (It’s actually quite cool to see such a simple change have a huge impact on the character and what affect it has on them personally and professionally.)

This whole blog/podcast started because of our past episodes where we discussed Agent Carter. If you haven’t been following us since the beginning, we used to wrap up the latest episode of Agent Carter every week on Google Hangout and then upload the audio for everyone to listen. It’s what made this website/podcast… what it is! But this year we’ll be changing the format a bit. We still have our podcast Geek Out Together, but from now on, each week we’ll be discussing Agent Carter in a blog post form! We’ll ask each other a series of questions about the premiere, answer them here, and publish all of our collective thoughts at once right before the next weeks episode. We are all really excited about this format and hope you all enjoy it. Without furthermore, here’s our thoughts on the epic two hour premiere of Agent Carter which covers “The Lady in the Lake” and “A View in the Dark”.

AGENT CARTER IS BACK! How does it feel to see Peggy back on our screens?! Also what do you think of the new setting (Hollywood)?

Joie: It feels amazing! We have show with a multi-dimensional leading lady! Also the show plays host to the Marvel Universe from a “Government Agency” POV, but unlike another show with similar ties, it starts before most super powered beings are really showing up! I’m also REALLY excited to see more of Rose, and Ana Jarvis, and the addition of Wilkes is perfect!

Gwen: I am over the moon excited to have her back in my life. I will say though, it is a little sad that she cant catch a break with relationships. I want her to be happy and it seems like between the two episodes something between her and Souza happened. I hope we get to find out more. As for Hollywood, its so exciting to see it in a decade I will never get to experience. I am hoping with the new setting comes new amazing California inspired fashion for Peggy!

Gladys: Guys, I’m doing a dance! I am so glad she’s back! I have missed Peggy and the fun-ness of this show. Yes, it has it overall serious ton but Peggy just knows when to throw out the jokes. I’m also pumped to see how this series will work in the “future” events of all of the Marvel universe, if that makes sense. I love the new setting of Hollywood. It’s much more colorful and I love seeing both Peggy and Jarvis try to blend into their new home.

Travis: I’m so happy to see Peggy back on our screen! It’s been too long and the nervousness that we might not get a second season really has me worried, but we made it and now it’s actually here and and- I’m just really excited. As far as the Hollywood setting, I absolutely LOVE it. Seems like such a great adventure for Peggy and since it’s all set in the 1940’s, it’s just that much more exciting. I can’t wait to see all the adventures Peggy gets into in the new season!

What are your thoughts on the dark matter and what happened to Jason Wilkes, and, Whitney Frost?

Gwen: I knew the Dark Matter was coming I just didn’t expect it to play such a big role so soon and early on. I am glad that we get to establish yet another kick ass female villain for Peggy to come up against though! Something in my gut tells me Wilkes is still alive. If Whitney made it, I have a feeling he might have made it too.

Gladys: Oh I knew Whitney was going to so much more trouble then everyone else this season. If I think they are going with the villain they are going with, I can’t wait for that story line to official start developing right in front of me. I hadn’t heard about the dark matter making it’s appearance this earlier in the series and when I saw it I was screaming at my TV. And damn Wilkes, I have so much hope that you are alive. If MCU can keep “Ward” alive in AoS you can come back. I need you to come back!

Travis: I totally wasn’t expecting the Dark Matter, only because I’ve been trying not to watch trailers/synopsis for this season. But once I saw it, I was so excited. It’s such a benevolent force which proves its own obstacles and trails for everyone involved. Whitney is super cool so far! I’m all for another badass villain and Whitney is just that. Can’t wait to see what her bigger role is in all of this as the season goes on. As far as Wilkes, like everyone else, I’m *sure* he has to still be alive… I mean… everyone else who dies in the MCU lives, so why not him?!

Joie: I wasn’t expecting the Dark Matter either. Like Travis I tried to avoid spoilers, as well (but now that the show has started…). As for Wilkes, I’m sure he’s made it, and Whitney did, so I hope he did too! Whitney scares me a bit…like. she’s eerily frosty and cool headed, and those are the villains I tend to worry most about.

Why do you think the death disappearance of Wilkes hit Peggy hard?

Gladys: I think it’s because the situation reminded her of Steve Rogers. Here’s another person in her life who trying to help her save the world and had his life taken. She doesn’t know exactly what the Dark Matter does and she couldn’t find him any where. Steve gave his life to save everyone from HYDRA, granted he knew what he was exactly doing and he got involved in it but Wilkes jumped in not knowing the outcome of this investigation not like Peggy did either but this was her job. She was sent to Hollywood to solve this case Wilkes was just  there making wine. Granted he was doing all he could to prove himself to the world of his worth but this wasn’t his job. Peggy can’t catch a break.

Travis: I’d definitely go with Gladys. Peggy has just accepted Steve’s “death” and was learning to move on with her life, so when this came about, it really threw her for a loop. Yeah, she deals with stuff like this on a daily basis, but I’m thinking she thought that kind of pain would be long gone. It’s sad to see Peggy have to go through all this, but by the end of the season I’m sure the outcome and rewards will be better than she can imagine.

Joie: I think Peggy was hit hard because Wilkes–like Peggy–has faced a lot of adversity. He’s trying to prove himself at something he’s perfectly capable of doing in a time when people don’t want to see those who don’t fit the mold (white & male, &–I assume–straight) achieving anything, much less, accomplishing great things. I believe, she sees in him what she saw in Steve (Cap): someone who is ambitious despite his circumstances, and believes any person (male, female, black, white, etc) is capable of good and great things. More importantly, she didn’t once have to remind him that she was capable. He didn’t see her being a woman as a hurdle, but as an asset. He knew she was awesome as f**k! Also, like Gladys and Travis have stated: this loss is more unknown than Steve’s. There’s no comfort in that.

Gwen: Can I just agree with everyone else? Yeah, let’s do that. Also I mean maybe she’s starting to believe in her line of work romance isn’t something she can handle. Seems like so far her track record with men has been really unfortunate..

So how cute are Ana and Jarvis? Are you excited to see more of Jarvis’ personal life this season?

Gwen: I LOVE Ana! I for some reason had a feeling that she was going to turn into a mega bitch character but so far I am loving her to pieces. I think that it’s long overdue for Jarvis’ personal life to come into play here. We didn’t get much of it in season one and it’s just a little refreshing.

Gladys: I adore Ana so much! OMG right she came on my TV, I knew I had found another awesome character. I am so happy that she teases Jarvis and is turning into another awesome friend for Peggy. Peggy needs friends (WHERE IS ANGIE GUYS??!) I hope Ana gets involved in some mission with Peggy and Jarvis. I need to see more of her.

Travis: OH MAN! YES!! I love seeing his personal life sooooo much and to see him happily in love and to actually be enjoying himself at home. Ana is such a nice character and I can’t wait to see more of her! She’s also becoming a really nice friend to Peggy which is great because WHERE IN THE HELL IS ANGIE?!?!

Joie: While I too am mourning the lack of Angie (#WheresAngie?) I will say Ana is a perfectly fun and spunky…er…replacement(?). I love that she’s the more colorful 1/2 to Jarvis! They are so cute! I feel like she’s got some secrets that I can’t wait to find out (seriously: Garter Gun Holster…Like I want one, and I’m not a gun fan). Also: can I note how AWESOME it is that Rose took up surfing? I just want Rose to be recognized (**crosses fingers hoping we won’t find out Rose is racist**)

Speaking of relationships, it seems as though Souza may or may not be having second thoughts about his relationship with his girlfriend. Do you think he’ll follow through with the marriage proposal or put it on the back burner to see how he feels about Peggy?

Gwen: For me, some part of me thinks he’s going to still propose to his lady. Simply because he’s probably comfortable and doesn’t want to take the risk. Whatever happened between them in the time skip was probably serious business but he also made it seem like he was ready to move on. I know he panicked when he thought Peggy was in danger, but that could just be residual feelings. If by some chance he does back out on the proposal, that definitely leaves it open to have him up and leave his girlfriend whenever he wants and it wont be as bad.

Gladys: Because this is TV and TV series need drama, I feel that Souza will still ask Violet to marry him but make heart eyes at Peggy. I personally hope that they play that story line with Souza and Violet being in a happy relationship and keeping Peggy/Souza in the pass. Like he said, that 3 hour time difference felt like a lifetime and at that moment he made the choice. Of course, you can’t help what you feel but I really hope it doesn’t become a triangle.

Travis: I think Souza will marry Violet. I also think he’ll always have a thing for Peggy causing more drama in the long run. I’m hoping they don’t go this route, but drama is drama and hooks people in. We’ll have to see!

Joie: I hope he follows through! I’m on ship Wilkes x Carter and I’m not coming to shore anytime soon! I’ve brought enough supplies to last THE. WHOLE. DARN. SEASON!!! “Avast me Hearties!”
**plugs ears and won’t listen to anything to the contrary**

Do you think Dottie will play an important role this season?

Gwen: I want to say yes. Will it be a team up with her and Peggy? Will her and Teen Choice Award Winner Chad Michael Murray Jack get together by some weird happenstance? I don’t know, the possibilities are endless! But it seems like we’ll keep going back to her in New York so who knows!

Gladys: I think she will. Jaime actual caught something that had to do with the symbol that was on the pin she tried to steal in NY so I believe it all revolves around each other. Also Teen Choice Award Winner Chad Michael Murray Jack makes for a really dumb chief. What made him think he could go up against Dottie? She’s got the mind games on lock down.

Travis: I think she will! Her introduction into this season was too great, so I think she’ll somehow make her way into the Hollywood plot line. I think she’s just so mad at Peggy that she needs to get her way somehow. Also Teen Choice Award Winner Chad Michael Murray Jack was so funny/stupid to think he could take her… like really, dude?? >___>

Joie: Yes! I love Dottie. She’s becoming my new Loki (don’t judge me). Maybe its because she kicked Teen Choice Award Winner (TCAW) Chad Michael Murray’s Jack’s butt (which makes it easy for me to like her. But yeah, Dottie’s a lot more then she seems. I sense a team up in the force the season (?).

Each week we’ll check in and give one word on about our feels for each episode, so whats your one word?

Gwen: Nervous!

Gladys: Excited!!!!

Travis: ANGIE??!!?!

Joie: STOKED!

The AGENT CARTER Season 2 Cast Photos Are Gorgeous!

We are just a little over a week away from the season two premiere of Marvel’s Agent Carter. We don’t know about you, but we’re jazzed for its return. That’s how us merry little crew actually first started doing things as a group (so expect podcasts on season 2 of Agent Carter much like we did for season 1).

TVLine released the brand new cast photos for the upcoming season and it seems like along with our favorites we’ve got some newbies as well!

Check out the photos below!

Marvel’s Agent Carter Season 2 will come back into our lives on Tuesday, January 19th on ABC.

AGENT CARTER Season 2 Promo: LIGHTS! CAMERA! CARTER!

We here at Nerdy Rebellion are not only crazy about Star Wars but we absolutely love Marvel’s Agent Carter. It’s that show that got the four us together and we are doing what we are doing (podcasts, TV recaps, The Nerdy Rebellion) because of it. So believe us when I type how jazzed we were when ABC dropped the very first promo for season 2!!

Last time we saw Peggy Carter, she was saying good bye to Steve Rogers and moving into a new place with Angie.

Marvel's Agent Carter

Season two has everyone’s favorite agent saying “Hello Los Angeles!” It’s still not clear why she’s working in the City of Angels but one thing is for sure, she’s there to punch everything. We get a glimpse of Mr. Jarvis (James D’Arcy), SSR Agent Sousa ( Enver Gjokaj) Peggy’s new love interest Jason Wilkes (Reggie Austin) and like I mentioned above, a whole lot of punching. She does mention needing a hobby! I do have one question… Where is Angie??!!!

Check out the trailer below!!

Marvel’s Agent Carter returns for a second season of adventure and intrigue, starring Hayley Atwell in the titular role of the unstoppable agent for the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve). Dedicated to the fight against new Atomic Age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home – and perhaps even a new love – she’s about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect.

Marvel’s Agent Carter stars Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, Enver Gjokaj as Chief Daniel Sousa, Wynn Everett as Whitney Frost, Reggie Austin as Jason Wilkes and Chad Michael Murray as Chief Jack Thompson.
