We’re back with another discussion on the last two episodes of Agent Carter! We’ll probably be posting them two at a time as it seems as though one post isn’t just enough Peggy for one post!
These last two episodes were jam packed with action and great character development and storytelling that and we can’t wait to see how the rest of the season plays out! Will Whitney/Agnes be defeated? Will Jack stop being an asshole? WILL JARVIS LEAVE THE STARK HOUSE TO WORK WITH PEGGY!?
We don’t know..we want to know…we HAVE to know!
Let’s get on to this weeks discussion, shall we?
Episode 3: Better Angels
This episode brought back Howard Stark! How do you feel about having him back?
Gwen: I am actually glad his character didn’t get left behind or something happened to him off screen during the hiatus. He’s a crucial part of Team Peggy and I love that they’re getting to see him in action (me as well!). I think that Howard will continue to play an important role throughout the season (hopefully).
Travis: I’m glad he’s back actually, haha! Howard was always such a funny character even though he can be problematic at times. He’s a sweet guy who really cares for Peggy and her goals and wants her to be able to do whatever she’s set her mind to do. He started off her adventures, so it’s nice to see it come full circle in a weird kind of way.
Gladys: I missed Stark and all his terrible but fun self. He’s such an entitled jerk but when it comes down to helping people he will drop whatever he is doing and get to work. He’s a part of the team and even with his crazy ways (getting all the ladies into the club so Peggy can do her thing) he’s also willing to help Peggy and Jarvis. I love the little moment they had about him being back with Peggy.
Joie: I’m pretty stoked he’s back! He’s that special little to tie to the MCU at large in way (ok, in a biological way LOL). But also, I really feel like this is one of Dominic Cooper’s best roles. Well, it’s my favorite of his at least. Also, I love how though he’s a bit of a rogue, he’s not just a genius, but he’s actually intelligent enough to not underestimate Peggy. He respects all people. Go Howard!
Teen Choice Award Winner Chad Michael Murray Jack is, and probably will forever be, an asshole. What do you think of his choice to pull her off the case?
Gwen: I mean, he obviously did what he wanted/pseudo HAD to do but Peggy being the person she is ALSO did what she wanted/had to do so in the end it was kind of pointless. I will say though, I thought his character was going to get better and since he hasn’t and continue to be a petty asshole of a character I can honestly do without him this season.
Travis: Like Gwen said, I don’t think it really mattered in the long run since Peggy is Peggy and she’ll do what she damn well pleases. But it’s also tiring to see Jack continue to be this mean rude force to Peggy. I know it’s just the character, but I would love to see a little bit of a redemptive quality in him.
Gladys: Jack’s an asshole who even though has seen what Peggy is capable so only in it for himself so I wasn’t really surprised when that happened but you know it’s going to bit him in the ass. I seriously think he’s making a big mistake working with the feds.
Joie: I’m kind of glad his character hasn’t changed too much as his little subtle changes would be a bit too extreme for my enjoyment. TCAW Chad Mich– I mean, Jack now knows Peggy is capable, which he didn’t even see as a possibility last season, and for his character to act in this petty-ass-bitch way is totally within his character’s natural development. Pig-man-boys can’t stand it when a woman is better than them. And Jack is well written, and multi dimensional version of this to me. But he’s a damn fool if he thought Peg would give up the case. And that’s in the end who he is. I want to see them in some fisticuffs though! She’ll kick his ass!
What are your thoughts on Whitney Frost so far? How do you feel knowing she’s working under an alias and that she’s actually a genius?
Gwen: On one hand I am like “OH NOOOO PEGGY MIGHT (keyword: might) HAVE MET HER MATCH!” then on the other I am like “WHOOP WHOOP GENIUS FEMALE!”. It sucks that because of the era they’re in a woman cant show just how smart they really are when it comes to that stuff, but I am glad she’s holding her own. Literally.
Travis: SHE’S GREAT AND AWEFUL ALL AT THE SAME TIME! I wanna dislike her just cause she’s the villain but she’s actually a pretty cool character. I’m torn. Either way, it’s pretty cool to have a badass villain this season.
Gladys: I am loving Whitney Frost. And damn I did not see that tid bit coming about her being the genius one. I am so happy she’s the one working with Zero Matter. It’s sad that it shocked me to see a woman being the genius though. It’s 2016 and it’s amazing how groundbreaking and shocking something like that can be. GIVE ME MORE WHITNEY FROST!
Joie: I’d like to answer this question knowing what I know from episode 4: Frost is a bad mamajamma beast! Like Peggy, she’s overcome some serious stuff! She’s amazing! But Peggy is better.
Do you think Vernon is really working for the government or do you think he has his own agenda with Isodyme?
Gladys: I believe Vernon has his own agenda and it involves Whitney and the Dark Matter. He may work with the Government but I think he has his own reasoning to play Jack like a fiddle and get this issue taken care of quickly and put the blame on Wilkes.
Travis: What Gladys said exactly! I think he’s a double sided coin who knows how to pass off as good and also has his own plan when it comes to certain things like the Dark Matter.
Joie: His affiliates that got him into his government position are the true people/agenda he is working for. I don’t believe it’s just Isodyme. I think that’s a front piece to the darker shadows behind it.
Gwen: Vernon is bad news bears all around. I feel like he might have his own agenda? I honestly wouldn’t put it past him!
What were your thoughts on the “power” that Whitney has with the Dark Matter? Were you expecting the Dark Matter to able to consume people from her?
Gladys: It was visible that the Dark Matter became one with Whitney but I was not expecting it flow from her and start sucking things in. Seeing that scene with the director telling her he fought for her to getting made about her face, and I’m assuming the Matter felt threaten so it did what he had to do. I was just not expecting that.
Travis: I definitely didn’t expect her to start honing this ability. I figured she’d just hold it inside her till someone could get it out, not start using it to suck people in. It’s actually quite creepy and I definitely didn’t see that coming. I even thought that *maybe* something similar would come of it but just brushed it off. I am excited to see what this brings Whitney though.
Joie: you can tell Whitney has brains and ambition (though to what extent we learn about later). But when she absorbed the director I pretty much said: “what the hellllllll…” and couldn’t wait for the next week!
Gwen: I wasn’t expecting that but I also don’t know what the purpose of it is? Does she get stronger? Does she get weaker (as you can tell by her face)? What’s happening?
Episode 4: Smoke & Mirrors
Whitney/Agnes seems to be practicing her powers trying to make them better, do you think she’ll reach her final form?
Gwen: I want to say yes. I think she’ll end up with some kind of ‘final form’ before getting bested by Team Peggy. It seems like the kind of formula for TV.
Travis: Probably. But it will most likely be towards the end which will then lead into one big epic battle that will be the season finale. It’s usually the generic format that TV follows nowadays, but I do think she’ll reach it. If not, she’ll definitely come close.
Gladys: I think we will get to see her journey to becoming the villain she is meant to be and I think during the season finale there is going to be something big and epic for both her and Peggy.
Joie: Yes!!!! I hope they bring the golden mask in!!! But I am curious if she will turn to good, over her current “extreme ambition at the cost of other’s lives”
Did you enjoy the flashbacks to Peggy and Whitney/Agnes’ lives?
Gwen: YES! I loved that we got to see a bit more about Peggy because man was her past hard to fathom pre-Steve. When it came to Whitney/Agnes I felt bad for her. I mean both women had tragic pasts and both ended up on the right paths for themselves but for some reason Whitney/Agnes’ backstory seemed a bit sadder and I kind of understand why she is the way she is.
Travis: THEY’RE SO AMAZING!! I didn’t expect this to happen this season or at all, so these flashbacks were so nice. I loved seeing Peggy before S.S.R. and Steve and to see what her life was like back then. Heartbreaking? Yes! Eye opening as to why Peggy has always been a badass? Double yes!
Gladys: The flashback in the episode worked so well. I heard people weren’t to happy with it but I loved them. It gave us more backstory on Peggy and her life before S.S.R. I love that everyone is like pre-Steve but I’m more like who was Peggy and how did she end up here. It’s was great to see more of her life. Whitney flashback were great as well because we got to see her road to where she is at this exact moment. We see her with the rats and she’s conducting an experiment but we got to see her as a child fix the radio. We got to see her Mother tell her that her only value is her looks and she’s an actress in the public eye instead of the genius that is she. It brought it all together.
Joie: This was perfection! I like Whitney even more now! And Peggy’s life before Steve was wonderful to see! *shivers from goosebumps* I mean, I didn’t realize I did this, but I forgot to think of who Agent Carter was before him (I kind of strong female character-ed her as “always a spy”), when she was Miss Carter. It was nice to see where the flame of ambition was sparked for both of these characters!
So like we said, we’ll be doing two posts a time so expect another Agent Carter discussion in two weeks!
