D23 Expo Dates Announced: July 14-16, 2017!

July 2017 is going to be a busy month if you are both a Disney fan and comic book fan!! D23 announced the dates for their expo which happens every other year and their 2017 dates fall the weekend before San Diego Comic Con. (Rumored dates!)

D23 Expo will take place July 14-16th, 2017 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. The convention center is right across from Disneyland and Disney California. Rumors have been swirling that San Diego Comic Con will take place July 20-23, 2017 which as I mentioned above, it’s the weekend right after D23 Expo. For me, this is going to be one hell of a vacation! Oh that’s right, I have already started planning my vacation around these dates. I’m going to take a week off and spend my time in Souther California attending both D23 Expo and SDCC.

And adding a trip to Disneyland in the process.

San Diego Comic Con Open Registration – Tips, Tricks, and Everything in between!

San Diego Comic Con happens once a year, every July, and manages to be the biggest con in America. More than 150,000 have badges and that’s not counting the thousands of people who attend the infamous off-site events. There’s various levels of registration, whether you are press, professional, past con goer, but this coming Saturday the open registration for new attendees will be happening as thousands of people try to get there hands on a coveted badges to this years con. And to help you guys stress less and get a few pointers, we thought we’d share a few tips with you guys. All of us here at The Nerdy Rebellion have been to SDCC at least once, with some of us being seasoned veterans of the highly coveted con. (You can actually catch us there this July!) So without further or due, here’s how to better prepare yourself for open registration!

This is a mishmash of our best tips for you guys! Hope you enjoy! We hope this helps your journey through SDCC hell a bit better.

Travis: So you’re finally thinking of trying for that coveted badge! Wahoooo! First off, open registration will probably be one of the most stressful things you ever do in your life. There’s so many things that can go wrong and my first tip is to accept that. Accept that you may get kicked off the website, accept that by the time you get in the badge you want is sold out… just prepare for the worst, basically. This sounds horrible, but it’s honestly the only way I survive pre-reg registration every year.

By the time Saturday morning comes you will probably be in a very nervous frenzy… That’s normal and part of the fun of this whole SDCC thing. I recommend stalking the SDCC twitter tag throughout this whole process because hearing from other people is so helpful! You’ll also learn what’s happening way faster than the registration room will tell you. (ie; badges being sold out, who got badges already, IS MY COMPUTER SCREEN FROZEN??? and many other q’s.)

(CCI actually has a helpful post on how to work the registration room. There’s even a video, so check that out here for technical help.)

Gladys: Like Travis said, prepare for the worst and you will be fine. It doesn’t matter if you log in on the dot or 30 mins later, you never know when you will get into the waiting room. Last year they pulled in random people every 120 seconds. I personally logged in at 9am and never got the chance for a ticket. Not one. (Plugging: You can read about my attempts for 2015 tickets on my blog!)

Now if you registered for a Comic Con ID before the cut off date, you should of gotten the e-mail on the 12th letting you know your Member ID and registration code. You need both to be able to even have the chance to get a badge. Keep your registration code! You can log in to retrieve it if you delete the e-mail but DO IT PRIOR TO SALE DAY. I had to log in on sale day and I thought doing it an hour before was fine and it wasn’t. The site was so hammered that I barely made it in to get my code. If you don’t have the code, YOU CAN NOT BUY TICKETS.

You need to log in at 8am sale day and register your code. You have until 8:59am to do so. Enter it as soon as possible! Don’t wait until the last minute. Their servers have never been great at handling so much traffic and believe me, there will be traffic. If you don’t have it entered by 8:59am, you will not get the chance to buy tickets at 9am.

DO NOT PASS GO DO NOT COLLECT SDCC TICKETS.

Okay, it’s 9am and you are ready to go! This is what YOU DON’T DO! DO NOT REFRESH YOUR BROWSER. I know, I know…. it will be tempting to do so but this not you trying to get a 20th Anniversary PS4 and you need to refresh your page because it keeps crapping out. It will try to trick you and make it seem like the page isn’t moving, that your not going anywhere but trust me you are in the virtual waiting room (think TRON) and if you refresh well, you could be thrown back to the end of the line. Now shit happens like THEIR system booting you. Just get back in and your spot should be saved.

Work in teams!! The system will let you buy tickets for yourself and two other folks who sacrificed their Star Wars Han Solo Kenner action figures to you. If you and two more friends are working together and one of you gets in, GET THOSE TICKETS. Be sure you all have the needed information, MEMBER IDS FOR EVERYONE AND FULL NAMES otherwise GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER! Oh, and you all need to make sure you qualify for tickets. If Kate Bishop and America Chavez qualify but Billy Kaplan doesn’t, guess who’s not gonna be able to get tickets.

Okay, so you did everything and you didn’t get tickets. It’s okay. It happened. I didn’t get any two years ago but I still headed to San Diego because there is so much off site things to do and about 95% of them do not involve needing a badge. Some are free or a small entrance fee to get in. I got to zip line through Gotham, see Godzilla, check out a fandom art show, play video games at NerdHQ, and a whole lot more. So if you don’t end up with any badges or a badge here and there, there are a lot more off site events that will keep you busy!

So there you have it folks. Some of our tips to help you out tomorrow. Over all though, just remember to breathe and

May the Force be with you
